5 top Expensive Cities for Apartment Rental in Nigeria in 2024
A property manager based in Abuja, Mr Bernard said: I have visited many cities in Nigeria and I did a study and came up with the results of the top 5 cities in Nigeria where people need to discipline themselves before renting a house! This survey was conducted on the top expensive cities for apartment rental in Nigeria in 2024, that is, cost of accommodation in houses/apartments found in a conducive environment or in an area with facilities common to an average African city.
1) Abuja
In terms of the cost of renting an apartment, be it an apartment, a self catering apartment or a nanny flat, Abuja (the major city) is a place where you really need to eat “belefull” before renting an apartment. This can really reduce your savings to frustrating levels! In a place like Maitama, you will see a one-bedroom apartment selling for 1 million naira! Any landlord/housing agent selling the same house for the same price in Benin City is surely an “enemy of progress”, are we going to buy a house? It is this that has led many residents of Abuja to move to the suburbs or outskirts of the city.
2) Lagos
I found that most of the mini apartments in Lagos Mainland cost more than 300,000 a year. You can get the same apartment in Akure for half the price, albeit with better facilities and a quieter environment. When I saw a friend of mine paying $10,000 a month for a nanny in Oregon, I cried!
3) Wari
This was supposed to happen after Port Harcourt, but it seems some homeowners here think everyone is extracting crude oil from the ground because it is called “Oil City”. Sometimes the monthly rent for a mini apartment is as much as 18k! A three-bedroom apartment with a good environment can cost 480,000-500,000 per year; sometimes, 600k.
4) Port Harcourt:
Rent in PH city is not much different from that in Warri.
5) Enugu
Sometimes, a nanny so small that you don’t even have enough room to stretch your hands in the morning without knocking things over in the room can cost as much as 100,000 to 110,000 a year! Even places like Obiagu and Artisan! The cost of rent for 2 and 3 bedroom apartments in places like Loma Linda/Independence Layout/GRA can kill the unemployed young!
