Foden ‘Feels Sorry’ for Under-Pressure Southgate

Foden ‘Feels Sorry’ for Under-Pressure Southgate because of the recent comments expressing sympathy for Gareth Southgate highlight the scrutiny and expectations that come with leading the England squad. The England striker Phil Foden (Phil Foden) said that the players “need to take some responsibility for the team’s performance at Euro 2024”, and he “regrets” the under-pressure manager Gareth Southgate (Gareth Southgate).

In the high-stakes world of international football, the pressures on a national team manager can be immense..

Southgate’s team defeated Slovakia after extra time in the last 16 games and entered the knockout stage with the first place in the group.

However, their way of playing has been criticized on issues of team selection and tactics.

“The players have to take some responsibility,” Foden said.

“There must be some leaders who get together to find a solution and why it doesn’t work.

“There is only so much the manager can do. He puts you in a system and tells you how to press it. If this is not the case, you have to [solve it].”

When asked about the pressure on Southgate during the game and entering Saturday’s quarter-final against Switzerland (17:00 BST), the Manchester City player added: “I feel sorry for Gareth.

“In training, he has been telling us to stay strong on the court. I think sometimes this has to come from the players.

We must be leaders

“We must be leaders. In the game, we could have gotten together more and worked out a solution.

“So yes, we have talked more. If it happens again in the game, we can get together to find a solution, see what went wrong with it, and adjust our media.”

Foden is the best player in the Premier League this season and was named the Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year for the 2023-24 season because he helped Manchester City win the top league championship.

However, he has not played in Euro 2024 and has been trying to replicate his Premier League form in Germany.

“I’m not the best player in the Premier League. I came here and didn’t show it,” the 24-year-old said.

“[But] I am taking a small step forward in every game, and I hope I can bring a good performance to the England team. This has always been my goal for the national team.

“The first game was very quiet. As far as the progress of the game is concerned, I didn’t have much progress.

“I grew up in the next game after that. I have been close a few times, and in the last game (against Slovakia), I was offside. Against Denmark, I hit the post.

“My performance has improved a lot, if [hard work] no one says anything.”

Foden also rejected the view that when he drifted from the left, he occupied a position too similar to midfielder Jude Bellingham.”I don’t agree with this, I think we work really well together,” he said.

“This is just the way of the game, and sometimes the way of football, [but] I think in the last game, we did establish a good foundation in terms of maintaining the ball.”We apply pressure at the end, and it can hopefully click together.”.
